Shopify Web Design UK Built to Sell
Bespoke Shopify and Shopify Plus stores for UK brands. We're a Shopify Partner, but the work is the credential, performance-tuned themes built around your catalogue, conversion-led product pages designed around the questions buyers actually ask, SEO and Merchant Centre wired up clean from launch. Free scoping call and a fixed-price quote within 48 hours. No hourly rates, no scope-creep invoices.
What we do
-
Bespoke theme architecture
We don't reskin Dawn or hand you a templated buy-once theme. Every build is a custom Shopify theme written for your catalogue, your brand, and the way your buyers actually shop. The code is yours from day one, no proprietary frameworks, no hostage licences, nothing you'd have to rebuild if you ever leave us.
-
Performance as a build target
Lighthouse 95+ on mobile is the floor we ship at, not the ceiling we aim for. Optimised images, lazy-loaded media, Liquid sections written for speed, deferred third-party scripts, Core Web Vitals tuned before launch. Slow Shopify stores leak conversions every day, we don't ship slow stores.
-
Conversion-led PDPs and checkout
Product pages designed around the questions your buyers ask before they buy: sizing, fit, returns, lead time, social proof. Reviews, FAQs, trust signals, urgency cues, placed deliberately, not pasted into a template. Cart and checkout flow tuned for the path most customers actually take, not the one a designer assumed.
-
SEO and Merchant Centre from day one
Schema markup, sitemaps, hreflang where you sell cross-border, structured product data, GMC product feeds wired up clean before launch. The technical SEO foundations Google rewards over time, set up correctly before the first ad ever runs. No retrofit projects six months in.
-
App stack curated, not stacked
Klaviyo, Loox, Gorgias, Recharge, Searchanise, we pick the apps that earn their seat in the stack and skip the rest. Server-side tracking via Shopify's Customer Events API as default, not an afterthought. Custom Liquid where an app would add bloat. Fewer apps, faster store, lower monthly bill.
-
Ongoing growth, not handover-and-leave
Most build clients keep us on for paid media, SEO, or CRO post-launch, same team that built the store knows where the optimisation surface is and can move on it from week one. If you'd rather take the build and run growth in-house, the handover documentation is built for that case too. No lock-in, 30-day notice on retainers, your assets are yours.
How a Shopify build with us actually runs
Six to ten weeks from kick-off to launch, fixed-price, fixed-scope. Here's the rhythm.
-
Free scoping call (week 0)
30-minute call to map the catalogue, fulfilment, integrations, content sources, and growth plans. We tell you whether Shopify or Shopify Plus is the right tier, and if a custom or WooCommerce build would actually fit better, we'll say so. Quote lands within 48 hours. Fixed-price, fixed-scope, fixed-timeline. No commitment to proceed.
-
Design and content (weeks 1–3)
Bespoke design on your brand, not a theme template. PDP, collection, cart, and checkout patterns mapped against the buyer journey we agreed in scoping. Content migration plan, redirect map, and SEO foundation laid in parallel so launch day isn't the moment things start moving.
-
Theme build and integrations (weeks 3–7)
Custom Liquid theme, payment and shipping setup, Klaviyo and review-app integrations, server-side Customer Events, GMC product feeds, schema markup. Client review at the end of week 5 with a working dev store. Performance tuned to Lighthouse 95+ before launch, not at the QA pass.
-
Launch and handover (weeks 7–10)
DNS migration, 301 redirect deployment, GMC and analytics verification, post-launch monitoring for the first two weeks. Documentation, admin walkthrough, training session for your team. You own the theme, the data, and every asset from day one, no migration fees if you ever leave.
What a serious Shopify build looks like in 2026
Most Shopify builds you'll see quoted in the UK fall into one of two shapes. The cheap end is a £1,500 Dawn reskin, colours swapped, logo dropped in, copy cut and pasted from your old site, launched in three weeks. The premium end is a £40,000 Shopify Plus build with a six-month timeline and an account manager who emails you screenshots of Trello columns. There's a serious middle ground in there, and that's where we operate: bespoke Shopify web design built around your catalogue, performance-tuned to compete on Core Web Vitals, with the SEO and analytics foundations Google actually rewards, sized to ambitious independent brands rather than enterprise budgets.
The bespoke versus templated question matters more than people think. Every Shopify theme template, including Dawn, including the paid Out of the Sandbox themes, including the £350 ThemeForest options, is a compromise designed for a generic catalogue. Every page-builder section adds dependencies that compound into bloat. Every "we'll just install this app" decision shifts maintenance overhead onto the future you. Custom Liquid sections, written for your catalogue's actual structure, ship faster, render faster, and stay maintainable as your team grows. The code is yours, the patterns are yours, the documentation is yours. If you ever leave us, you take a clean Shopify theme with you, not an agency-owned licence and a list of app dependencies.
The other thing that decides whether a Shopify store compounds revenue post-launch is performance. A Shopify storefront that loads in four seconds on mobile is leaking 20% of its conversions before the visitor sees a product page, the data on this is unambiguous and has been for a decade. We treat Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse scores as build targets, not post-launch optimisation projects. Optimised images served via Shopify's CDN with srcset and sizes set properly, lazy-loaded sections, deferred third-party scripts, Liquid written without N+1 collection queries, sensible app discipline. Lighthouse 95+ on mobile is the floor, and we'll show you the report on the dev store before launch.
Migration is the single most important decision when you're rebuilding rather than starting fresh. Done well, a replatform preserves your rankings and your revenue from day one. Done badly, a replatform tanks your traffic for months while Google reconciles the new structure, and the recovery curve from a botched migration is expensive in revenue terms long after the build cost has been forgotten. We map every existing URL to its new home, write the 301 redirects before launch, preserve product schema and structured data, re-validate the Merchant Centre feed, and run a post-launch crawl to catch anything missed. The honest answer to "will my SEO survive a Shopify replatform" is "if it's done right, yes, and if it's done wrong, no, so make sure it's done right".
App stack discipline is the difference between a Shopify store that runs lean for years and one that gets quietly throttled by its own subscriptions. Klaviyo for email and SMS, Loox or Judge.me for reviews, Gorgias for support, Recharge for subscriptions, Searchanise for predictive search, these earn their seat. Most of the rest don't. Custom Liquid replaces an app's worth of bloat in roughly the time it takes a junior developer to learn the app's settings panel. We curate the stack on the scoping call so the monthly app bill at launch is a number you'd happily defend to your finance team, not a creeping 14-line invoice that crept up post-go-live.
And the build is just the start of the work. The Shopify stores that compound revenue post-launch are the ones with a continuous conversion programme running underneath them. Most of our build clients pair launch with our CRO programme or our Google Ads and Meta Ads retainers, the team that built the store knows where the optimisation surface is and can move on it from day one. If you'd rather take the build and run growth in-house, the handover is built for that case too. We work with UK brands as Shopify experts, sized to where you're going next, not where you came from.

Frequently asked questions
Are you a Shopify Partner?
Yes, Peak Digital is a Shopify Partner, we build on every Shopify tier including Shopify Plus. The build itself is the same regardless of tier; what changes is the platform features available on top (multi-region selling, advanced checkout customisation, B2B wholesale, Shopify Functions, expansion stores) and the architecture decisions Plus enables. We use Plus features where they fit your business and don't push them where they don't.
How much does a Shopify website cost?
Every Shopify build starts with a free scoping call and a fixed-price quote, sized to the scope of the work. We quote within 48 hours of the call. No hourly rates, no scope-creep invoices, you know the budget before any code is written. Pricing depends on catalogue size, custom integrations, content volume, migration complexity, and whether you need Shopify or Shopify Plus tier. We work between the theme-reskin end of the market and the enterprise Plus end, and neither extreme is where we live.
How long does a Shopify build take?
Six to ten weeks from scoping call to launch is typical. Smaller catalogues with no migration land closer to six; larger catalogues with platform migration, custom integrations, or multilingual setup land closer to ten. Shopify Plus builds with bespoke checkout extensions or large headless components run longer and we'll tell you on the scoping call. The timeline goes into the quote so you can plan launch campaigns against it. Scope changes mid-build are quoted as deltas, they don't blow up the timeline silently.
Shopify or Shopify Plus, which do I need?
Standard Shopify (or Shopify Advanced) covers the vast majority of UK direct-to-consumer brands up to roughly £1m–£2m annual revenue, with most of the features that matter, checkout, multi-currency, gift cards, abandoned cart, advanced reports. Shopify Plus is worth the upgrade when you need bespoke checkout extensions, B2B wholesale at scale, multi-storefront for separate regions or brands, dedicated launch infrastructure for high-traffic drops, or a Customer Success Manager and Launch Engineer relationship. We'll tell you the right tier on the scoping call, with the reasoning, so you can disagree if you want to.
Will the Shopify site be SEO-friendly?
SEO foundations are built into the build, not bolted on afterwards. Schema markup, structured product data, sitemaps, hreflang where you operate cross-border, semantic HTML, sensible heading structure, fast Core Web Vitals, all standard. Google Merchant Centre product feeds are wired up clean before launch so paid shopping and free listings work from day one. If you want an active SEO programme post-launch, we run that as a separate retainer, see our SEO services.
Can you migrate my existing store to Shopify?
Yes, most rebuilds we ship are migrations, typically from WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, or older Shopify themes that have outgrown their architecture. We map every existing URL to its new home, write 301 redirects before launch, preserve product schema and structured data, migrate customer accounts where the source platform allows, re-validate the Merchant Centre feed, and run a post-launch crawl to catch anything missed. Done correctly, a Shopify migration preserves your traffic and rankings from day one.
Do I own the Shopify theme and the data?
Yes. Source Liquid, design files, customer data, content, all yours from day one. The theme lives in your Shopify admin and the development repo gets handed to your team or your next agency on request. No agency-owned theme licences, no proprietary frameworks you'd have to migrate off. Documentation is built for handover from the start, not as an afterthought when a relationship ends. The 30-day notice rule applies to retainers, not to your assets, those are always yours.
Which Shopify apps will you set up?
Only the ones that earn their seat. The default stack we configure depends on the build, but typically: Klaviyo for email and SMS, Loox or Judge.me for reviews, Gorgias for customer support, Recharge if you need subscriptions, Searchanise for predictive search, the Shopify Markets feature for cross-border, and the official Shopify GA4 and Meta Pixel apps for analytics. We replace many third-party apps with custom Liquid where doing so reduces bloat and the monthly subscription bill. The full stack goes into the scoping doc so the monthly app cost at launch is a number you've signed off, not a surprise.
What about UK payments, shipping, and VAT?
Shopify Payments handles most of the card processing, with Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, and Google Pay added where the customer mix justifies it. Royal Mail, DPD, Parcelforce, and Evri shipping configured against your actual carrier accounts and zones. UK VAT, EU VAT (post-Brexit one-stop-shop where relevant), and digital VAT for downloadable products. The configuration goes into the build scope, not into a post-launch "oh, by the way" conversation.
Do you do ongoing maintenance after launch?
Optional retainer. Shopify itself handles the platform-level updates, security patches, and uptime, that's one of the reasons people pick Shopify over self-hosted alternatives. Ongoing maintenance with us is mostly app-stack hygiene, theme updates, Core Web Vitals monitoring, and small CRO tweaks. Most build clients pair this with a paid media or SEO retainer rather than a standalone maintenance contract, continuity beats agency-hopping. Standalone maintenance is available by quote.
Can you also handle the launch marketing campaign?
Yes, when it makes sense. The build team and the paid media team are the same people. We run Google Ads and Meta Ads on a monthly retainer, quoted to the account. CRO is included in either retainer. If you'd rather take the build and run growth in-house, that's fine, the handover documentation is built for that case too.
